Sylvie contracted polio as an infant and both of her legs were paralyzed. She comes from a poor family and her father died when she was young. Her widowed mother could not afford treatment for Zawadi and as a result Zawadi was on the ground for her first 10 years, unable to stand or walk.
Sylvie says she would like to become a teacher when she grows up.
